Chris is currently working cruise ships and has done so for the last 6 years with a short break to train as a music and drama teacher in secondary schools. Chris' passion for performing saw him going back to working on ships and during his time off touring his own brand of self penned and traditional songs. Quick witted comedy and his unique delivery of sea songs and own songs draw on life experiences that never fail to satisfy an audience.

Internationally renowned touring shanty singer Chris Ricketts releases a CD containing self penned songs that draw upon his experience as a well travelled musician and his love of the sea.
Between the Devil and The Deep Blue Sea is the culmination of several years of rapid musical growth for singer and multi-instrumentalist Chris Ricketts. The new album brings together his love of sea shanties and folk song, his formidable instrumental skills, songwriting skills and a recent performance track record of exciting stage shows not only in the UK but across Europe and America.
The roots of Chris Ricketts love affair with sea songs lie in seafaring Portsmouth, where he was born and bred and involved in the city’s acoustic and folk music scene since the age of 15. Shortly after this musical discovery Chris was invited to play at the International Maritime Festival in Vegesack, Germany. It was here that the whirlwind of bookings and International acclaim started. Within a matter of months Chris was playing all over Europe and America.
Ricketts’ previous album ’Port of Escape’ was described as the ’perfect example of English Folk Rock’ by Folk London and awarded 4 stars in R2 Magazine. Chris was also semi finalist in the prestigious and influential BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards. As well as numerous international validations, he also gained added local acclaim, winning Best Folk Roots Act in the Portsmouth Evening News.
Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea is the first of his recordings to include mostly self penned songs. The songs all look closely into the life of a sailor with deeper relevant social issues being highlighted. All the songs relate to his love of the sea and travelling. ’Na Zdrowie’ is a song that reflects the many visits to Poland over the last 12 months and his desire to engage and meet like-minded friendly communities.
